SimuWIND
The aim of the project was to comprehensively consider the complex interactions between the components of dynamically highly loaded wind turbines and to develop an integrated simulation and multi-sensor monitoring system for the dynamic design and condition diagnosis of wind turbines. Over the course of the project, the AMT (then IMR) has succeeded in gathering essential knowledge about the dynamic behaviour of a wind turbine of the 2 MW class.
Measurements in normal operation and under special load conditions
For the basic understanding, the institute carried out a multisensory measurement on a REpower wind turbine and determined the operating behaviour in normal operation and under special load conditions. The team was able to validate the simulation model using real load curves. Furthermore, it identified meaningful measuring points and analysis methods for a condition monitoring system.
For the integrated multisensory monitoring system, the AMT (then IMR) created a series of simulation models, which then led to a comprehensive overall simulation model. This made it possible to calculate various load cases on the basis of measurement results. Taking into account all partial models, it was also possible to calculate information on loads on partial components of the drive train (e.g. the gearing or the bearing) in addition to the measured state variables.
Another success was the choice of hardware. It was able to meet the various requirements and was suitable for implementing a condition monitoring system. AMT (then IMR) also developed a concept for an extended CM system based on measurement data and integrated simulation. By using simulation technology and including the simulation results in the analysis of the measurement data, it offers optimized possibilities for assigning vibration frequencies and determining maximum permissible amplitudes. This represents a significant added value compared to the CM systems currently available on the market for wind turbines.
